Motivation? really are you nuts?
Let’s talk about motivation and what’s wrong with it, and why you should stop watching motivation videos and things that are shared billions of time all over the Internet.
I personally believe that motivation is a drug and the more you get, the more you want and you keep wanting for more and more of it and you end up doing nothing.
“Motivation Is for Amateurs — The Rest of Us Just Show Up and Get to Work".
Let’s take a look at the definition of Motivation — According to Cambridge.org Motivation means — the need or reason for doing something, the process of giving someone a reason for doing something.
So when someone says they need motivation all they are saying is they need more reasons to get out their butts off to get some shit done!. And I agree that you do need some reason to do it but that doesn’t mean someone else on YouTube should tell you why you should get shit done, I’m just saying that you have to find your own reason, your own Why to get shit done, read more about WHY here.
Have you ever wondered what makes a soldier strive so hard and sacrifice their life for the country?, what makes someone to climb the Mt. Everest?. People who have climbed Mt. Everest, while climbing they didn’t say or complain that they lacked motivation or asked for someone to motivate them to climb or they didn’t pull out their phone to watch some motivational shit on YouTube, The same way soldiers in the battlefield didn’t give up saying that they need motivation!.
You just can’t rely on motivation, it’s like one of your friend that says yes to all plans and shows up for none! Sure, motivation gets you of bed, lack of it, you stay in bed. Motivation pushes you to burn a few more hours a work, lack of it make you dread work conditions. It comes down to do you have it or not, and if you don’t you make yourself feel like you need it. When this happens, you feel stuck. So now you go buy a book or take a course, and they “motivate” you for about a week and then you’re back to square one.
When you crave for more of it, it reinforces the fact that you lack it in the first place. Alan Watts used to refer to as “The Backwards Law” — The idea that the more you pursue feeling better all the time, the less satisfied you become. The more you desperately want to be rich, the poorer and unworthy you feel, regardless how much money you actually make. “The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience.” wrote Mark Manson in his latest New York Times Bestselling book. Wanting for more motivation is itself a negative experience and you should know that wanting more of it will get you nothing and accepting that you don’t have will make you realize that it’s something you shouldn’t be doing!.
Elon Musk says “If You Need Inspiring Words, Don’t Do it.”
Because to do something you love or something your passionate about it, you don’t need an external push. You do it even if the odds are not in your favor.
Accomplishing your goals is not about motivation, it’s about discipline. — Motivation is fickle, motivation comes and goes. — Motivation is unreliable and when you’re counting on motivation to get your goals accomplished, you’re likely going to fall short. Don’t count on motivation, count on discipline! You know what you have to do, go make yourself do it.
So Bharat if not motivation, then what does it takes to get shit done?. Well I’ll give you a hint it’s D&F and I’ll talk more about it in my next post!.
Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed it, let me know what do you think about it and don’t forget to like and share and do all those good stuff!.
