Did Lord Krishna save Rukmini or Kidnap her?
Let’s find out!
Krishna’s uncle, whom he killed was Kamsa. Kamsa’s father-in-law was Jarasandha. The disciples of Jarasandha were two — Rukmi and Shishupala. Rukmi’s sister was Rukmini . Since Rukmi and Shishupala (who was Krishna’s cousin) were the best of friends, Rukmi decided that he would get his sister married to Shishupala, as per the patriarchal system that existed.
However, true to the wishes of a covert feminist i.e. Rukmini, who wished to marry Krishna and only Krishna but, was unable to express that due to fraternal pressure, sent a letter to Krishna saying that she was getting married on so-and-so date and, if he accepted her love and devotion, he should come and take her away forcefully and marry her. This form of marriage may seem scandalous to you, especially with a God doing it, but it was a form of the eight acceptable forms of marriages in the vedic ages.
So Krishna, taking the aid of his good friend Arjuna, swept in with impeccable timing, a time at which she was exposed to the public even with tight security. He picked her up and put her on to his chariot and rode off into the sunset.
The End. Not yet.
So Shishupala told Rukmi to avenge this insult. Rukmi chased the lovebirds and managed to do the humungous feat of angering Krishna. Krishna took out his bow and arrow and fired at Rukmi with such precision that he became half bald both in the head and the upper lip. Insulted and humiliated, Rukmi sulked and went back, while Krishna finally won his woman.
I say, Krishna has done right job, the blame or rage people throw on him, accusing him as kidnapper is one’s stupidity.
Here, in the story, Rukmini has selflessly portrayed her love, Devotion and desire to marry him. She was the one who wrote a letter, with her consent, Krishna came to her and picked her to get married off.
Cause, nothing is greater than Love.
If your love for the person is right, pure & true, Just go ahead Nothing wrong is dreaming of marrying a person you love and long to Live with.
